Obituary of Armand J. D'Errico

Dr. Armand J. D´Errico, age 99, of Gloversville, died Tuesday evening, February 15, 2005 at Broward General Hospital, Ft. Lauderdale, FL. He was born December 24, 1905 in Brooklyn, NY, the son of Francesco and Angelina Panella D´Errico. He attended Columbia University in New York City and obtained his medical degree in 1931 from the University of Edinburgh Medical School in Edinburgh, Scotland. In 1934 Dr. D?Errico joined the surgical staff at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville. He was a solo General Practicioner in Gloversville for sixty years except for three years of service in the 5th Army Medical Corps. Major D?Errico served in the South Pacific Theater of Operations and participated in the beachhead landing in Hollandia, New Guinea and in the Leyte invasion in the Phillippines. Dr. D´Errico was a member of St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church and its Holy Name Society, a fourth degree member of Knights of Columbus Council #265, and Medical Officer for Catholic War Veterans Post #642 since 1946. From 1967?1968 he served as the National Medical Officer of the C.W.V. of the USA. For many years he served as Medical Officer for the New York State Department of C.W.V. He was also a member of the the Gloversville Lions Club, the Americam Medical Assoc; State of New York Medical Society, the Fulton County Medical Society for which he served as Prisident in 1962, the American Academy of General practice, the NYS Academy of General Practice, and the NYS and the American Society of Anexthesiology. He was also a member of the former Gloversville Elks Club. Survivors include four children, Francis M. D´Errico and his wife Merilyn of Gloversville, Eleanor Zamos and her husband Lawrence of California, Angela Gable of Gloversville, and Donald V. D'Errico and his wife Joanne of Smyrna, GA; a sister Violet Bianchi of New Jersey, 8 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Jane Fraser who died 1992, and also by three brothers and five sisters. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 PM Friday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, where a prayer service will be held 9:15 AM Saturday, followed at 10:00 AM by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church, Gloversville. Entombment in the family mausoleum will take place in the spring at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown. Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 73 N.
