Obituary of Samuel C. LaBate
Samuel C. LaBate, 86, of Lincoln Ave, passed away Thursday morning at St. Mary?s Hospital in Amsterdam.
Born on March 24, 1919 a son of Annunziato and Maria St. Angelo LaBate. He was a lifelong Amsterdam resident and attended local schools.
Mr. LaBate served in the U.S. Army During World War II. He was stationed first in Oakland, CA and then went to Hawaii where he worked rebuilding the landing strip at Hickam Field Air Base. He then went to Waikiki managing the PX and the bar.
After the War he married the former Mary P. Colaneri LaBate. They were married on September 16, 1945. She passed away on March 24, 2001.
He worked for over 30 years as the Water Superintendent for the City of Amsterdam retiring in 1983.
Mr. LaBate was a communicant of St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam. He was also a member of the Columbian Social Club.

Jacob ?Jake? LaBate and his wife Rita of Amsterdam
Two Sisters- Maria ?Mary? LaBate of Amsterdam
Madeline VanAllen and her husband Robert of Amsterdam
Cherished Grandchildren-Sara Thomas, Mara Rivera, Tricia, Richard and Michael Altieri.
Cherished Great-Grandchildren- Dante Rivera, Antonio Thomas, Richard Altieri, Tyler Altieri, Andre Jackson, Marcus Jackson, and Mianna Jackson.
Several Nieces, Nephews and cousins also survive.
He was predeceased by his wife Mary, A Cherished Grandson- Christopher Altieri and Four Brothers-Anthony?Boston? LaBate, Harry, John and Michael LaBate and a sister- Carmella Caddell.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday May 7, 2005 at 9:15A.M. at St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, Grove St. Amsterdam, with the Rev. Lawrence J. Decker as celebrant. Interment will be held at a later date in St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery in Amsterdam. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude?s Children?s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or to the Albany Medical Center Children?s Hospital, New Scotland Ave. Albany, NY 12208. Arrangements are under the direction of the Betz, Rossi and Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, NY 12010.
