Obituary of Virginia A. Hann
Mrs. Virginia A. Wille Hann was born in the Gloversville area on May 16, 1922, the only child of Eva Howe Wille and Howard Wille. She was raised by her mother alone under difficult circumstances and they were very close. From her mother, Vrginia learned the attributes of generosity, stoicism, persistence, and diligence that marked her life. She graduated from Gloversville High School in 1940 and then served in the WAVES during World War II. She served as a dental hygienist for the Navy in Philadelphia, where she made life-long friends. After the war, she returned to Gloversville and married Albert Hann on September 5, 1946. She and Albert lived happily together until his sudden death in 1994.
She was a very active member of the former First United Methodist Church in Gloversville and was a soloist in the choir. She worked for many years as office manager of the Coca Cola Bottling Plant on S. Main St. in Gloversville, and for various other offices in the area. After ?retirement? , she continued to work as a bookkeeper and private nurse/caretaker until a few months ago. For the last ten years she has selflessly and devotedly volunteered as a massage therapist using her own ?hands-on? technique at local nursing homes, hospitals and at her home. Until two months ago, Virginia often worked 12-hour days taking care of others.
Mrs. Hann died at home on Friday, July 1, 2005 after a brief but difficult illness. Her family and friends are grateful to her wonderful friends Raydene Evans and Harriet Grady who helped nurse her through her last months and were with her when she passed. She was predeceased by her mother, her husband, and her dear cousins, William and Hazel Vosburgh. She is survived by her cousins Nina Frye, Nina?s daughters Audrey Jones and Betty Jacobs, and by their husbands and children, to whom she has been a devoted and loving favorite aunt.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 PM Wednesday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St., Gloversville, where a funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM Thursday with Pastor Robert Lair officiating. Interment will take place at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville. Memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Avenue, Gloversville, NY 12078.
