Obituary of Spencer Jacob Kaiser
Spencer Jacob Kaiser, 84, of Rt. 29, Galway, passed away at his home on Wednesday, surrounded by his family.
He was born on July 6, 1921 in Amsterdam, graduated from Amsterdam High School and attended Union College. He served with the Army Air Corps with the Airway Communication Systems as a radio operator in the South Pacific during World War II.
In 1943 he married his soul mate, Shirley Warner, who survives him after nearly sixty-two years of marriage. He is also survived by his daughters and sons in law; Bonnie and David Trevett of Hudson Falls, Judy and Rick Vaughan of Lansing, NY, and Marcie and Tom Page of Galway. He was a loving grandfather to Kristine Jones, Renee Murphy, Marie Mercure, Rebekah and Kyle Trevett, Brian and Kevin Vaughan, Jacob & Colin Eletto, Nathaniel Page, Audra Eletto, Carly Page, Kara Eletto and Emily Page, nine great grandchildren, being predeceased by his grandson, James Trevett. He is also survived by his sister and brother in law, Audrey and Bob Zullo of Ballston Spa and his brother and sister in law Allan and Dale Kaiser of Benson, NY and numerous nieces and nephews.
Spence was a warm and gregarious man, making friends wherever he went. He was a hardware salesman for many years and was the co-owner of Collins and Reese Hardware Store in Gloversville NY. He was a man who made everyone feel special, from his customers to his family, and he loved to share stories with people. He was interested in may things, was an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed feeding his birds in later life He was a deeply spiritual person who felt God?s presence in the beauty of nature. A resident of Gloversville most of his adult life, he had been active in the First Presbyterian Church there. He was a well read, wise and patient man, who taught his daughters by example, how to treat other people with care and compassion. His main focus in life was his ?bride? Shirley, and he was a caring and devoted husband. He was lovingly cared for at home by Shirley in his last years, and will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
A celebration of his life will take place Saturday at 12 noon at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam with the Rev. Thomas Gregg officiating. Interment is in the Hagaman Cemetery. Calling hours are Friday from 4-7 pm at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to the Hospice Of Saratoga County, 179 Lawrence St. Saratoga Springs, 12866, to whom the family is deeply thankful for his wonderful care.
