Obituary of D. Robert Persse

D. Robert Persse, 80, of South Shore Rd., Peck Lake, Gloversville, NY passed away unexpectedly Monday morning at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville after being stricken at home. Born on November 18, 1924 in Fonda, NY, the son of Dudley and Marion Frederick Persse, Robert was a lifelong area resident. He was a graduate of Fonda High School and attended Hope College in Holland, MI until serving with United States Navy during World War II. Robert was first worked for his father with Twin City?s Milk Co. in Johnstown where he delivered milk around the area for many years. He later became a State Farm Insurance Agent where worked for over 28 years and ran his office in Fonda, NY until his retirement in 1992. He was a former member and past president of the Fonda-Fultonville Kiwanis Club, was past president of the Albany Synod, served on the board of the Evergreen Cemetery, was a former member of the board of directors of the Mohawk-Minden Insurance Co., and the Fulmont Mutual Insurance Co. Robert was a former councilman and supervisor in the Town of Mohawk, he bowled in the Fonda Bowling league and was also a member the Fonda Reformed Church where he was a member of the choir and served as an Elder and Deacon of the church. Robert will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend. Robert was predeceased by his first wife of 50 years, Emma Mae Dillenbeck Persse whom he married on October 23, 1946. She passed away on May 9, 1997. Survivors include his wife, Carol Young Persse whom he married on January 2, 1999, a son, Thomas R. Persse of Fonda, NY; a daughter, Nancy P. Langdon and her husband Robert of Fultonville; his granddaughter, Katie E. Bowler and her husband Kevin of Fonda, NY; 2 great grandchildren, Matthew J. and Emma E. Bowler; and several cousins. A memorial service will be held on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at the Fonda Reformed Church, 21 Broadway, Fonda with the Rev. Christopher Degraaf officiating. Burial will take place in the Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda. Calling hours will be on Wednesday from 4 until 7 p.m. at the Jackson & Betz funeral Home, 15 Main St., Fultonville, NY. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Robert?s memory to the Fonda Reformed Church, 21 Broadway, Fonda, NY 12068.
