As just about one month has passed since Patrick's death, I still can not believe that it is true.
There are so many people that were truly touched by the friendship that each shared with Pat. He was the guy that ALWAYS made you smile when you saw him. I guess I can not understand how someone SO loved, and with SO many friends could be suffering so badly. My heart goes out to you, Patrick, and to your entire family. I hope you have found PEACE. With love, Heather

The Derby family,
In his best times, Patrick was an inspiration. In his worst times, he was a friend who needed all of us. For Turbo, life was very difficult and it seems now that he could see a great challenege ahead.. It very sad that you have suffered such a great loss because Derb was a very influential person, not only to me, but others. From helping and quiding others into culinary school to the very last days, he still discovered new things about food. Always remember him for his impecable culinary skills and reguards to teaching others how to cook. He was more than just a chef, he was more than just a friend.. He was a mentor and a teacher. I will never forget that about him.. Much respect....

Mrs. Derby, Bill, Nora, and Mike,
I am very sorry to hear about the loss of Patrick. He was such a good friend with a huge heart, always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. Growing up, we shared so many great times together and had often spoke about skiing together in Lake Tahoe one day. This past March, twenty some years later as if meant to be, my brothers and I met up with Pat in Tahoe and had an absolutely incredible time together. We haven't stayed in touch enough since I moved to California 15 years ago, so I am glad to have had this opportunity to spend some more quality time and catch up on some old times with him.
Memories of Pat will never be forgotten...

Patrick -
If there are computers in heaven & you are reading this, I'm sure it's because Andy is by your side helping you figure out how this thing works.
I feel blessed to have shared a few years of my life so closely with you. You've changed my life forever... I thank you for the relationship I now have with your sister, Nora, she is the sister I never had. I thank you for bringing Charlie into our lives - she is one special and very spoiled dog, but mostly I thank you for encouraging me to believe there is something after this life.
Lastly, I thank you for your call and yes, I do expect you to be waiting for me in heaven - possibly with some chicken schnitzel in hand, if I should be so lucky.
On your journey to heaven, I hope you got to fly to the moon, play among the stars and will see what spring is like on Jupiter and Mars... in other words, I love you!

Dear Mrs. Derby and Family,
Patrick was like a brother to the Ioeles. He celebrated many happy occasions with our family and honored us by acting as a pallbearer for our mother. We are so saddened by his tragic death and will remember him for his generous spirit and true heart. May God bless Patrick. May you and his friends find some comfort in each other and celebrate his memory in all good ways.
With heartfelt sympathy,

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Derby family. We were both so sorry to hear about "Derb." He was such a nice person and a good friend. Everytime we saw him he was smiling. He always went out of his way to say hello and was always a gentleman around others. Although we didn't see him as often as we would have liked, we always enjoyed the times we were with him and we will miss getting a little "exta" with our meals at the Railyard when he was cooking. We will miss you so much, but hope you are at peace, Derb. We are thinking of you and all of your loved ones.

To the Family and Friends of Patrick S. Derby,
It's no secret that Pat was loved by all. It's just so sad that he had to leave us so soon. But, like me, our hearts are full of memories filled with love and laughter for this is the way he touched all he met during his time here with all of us. As for the special memories he and I shared, well those are ones I will cherish always. Just as all who knew him will as well.
Love and God Bless,
Theresa A. Flint
P.S. Derb, One day we'll meet again and for this I'll keep a smile just for you.

Mrs. Derby and Family,
Pat was such a special person. He was like a brother to my family. I was never surprised to see Derb at Don or Lori's house. His name was brought up so many times in a conversation, and always in a positive way. He was always helping Don or whoever needed him. He was truly part of our family and will be sadly missed, but our memories will never be forgotten. God Bless to all.
