Obituary of Henry Charles Ley

Henry Charles Ley, 90, of North Main St., Broadalbin, New York passed away unexpectedly Wednesday evening at St. Mary?s Hospital in Amsterdam, New York. Born in New Haven, Connecticut on January 5, 1916 a son of Henry C. Ley and Amelia Klinkhammer. He attended local schools and was a graduate of the New Haven Commercial High School. He later graduated from New Haven College with a degree in Accounting and Business Administration. Mr. Ley was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II serving in the Army Corps of Engineers. He served with the ?shore party troops?. He served in the Philippines, Okinawa and Korea. He was employed as a Bank Examiner for T.M. Byxbee Co. C.P.A.?s for three years in Connecticut and New York. He also worked in the Trust Department for the First National Bank and Trust Company of New Haven. Mr. Ley then went to work for William J. Kline and Sons Publishing Company, publishers of the Amsterdam Evening Recorder. He worked for the Recorder for over 31 years as the Business Manager and the Assistant Treasurer. Mr. Ley moved to Amsterdam in 1950 and has resided in Broadalbin since 1952. Mr. Ley was a member of the Amsterdam Rotary Club, and was a member of the Amsterdam Memorial Hospital Board for over 38 years. He was a former Treasurer of the Antlers Country Club, now Rolling Hills Country Club in Ft. Johnson, New York. He was also a former member of the Broadalbin School Board and served as President of the Board for one year. Mr. Ley was a former Village of Broadalbin Treasurer for 18 years, and was a member of the Amsterdam Lodge # 0084 F & A.M. He was a member of St. Ann?s Episcopal Church in Amsterdam and was a former member of the vestry and treasurer of the church. He married the former Margaret Rimler on February 4, 1942. She passed away on January 3, 1998. Survivors include seven children, Harold H. Ley Margaret of Rochester, New York, Russell F. Ley of Broadalbin, New York, Richard P. Ley of Malta, New York, Cynthia J. Knotts Jack of Severy, Kansas, Diane H. Ley of Cohoes, New York, Wendy L. de Villiers Pierre of Chelmsford, Massachusetts, and Peggy Ann Richter Steven of East Longmeadow, Massachusetts; one sister, Margaret Gagliardi of Hamden, Connecticut; eight grandchildren, Scott R. Ellsworth of Lawrence, Kansas, Christopher A. Ellsworth Andrea of Wichita, Kansas, Suzanne M. Ley of Jersey City, New Jersey, Michelle N. Ley of Brooklyn, New York, Jean-Paul C. Doiron of Chelmsford, Massachusetts, Whitney L. Doiron of Chelmsford, Massachusetts, Conner S. Richter and Kyle L. Richter of East Longmeadow, Massachusetts and one great-grandchild, Emma Rose Ellsworth of Wichita, Kansas. The Office For the Burial of the Dead will be read and Holy Eucharist celebrated by the Rev. Christopher A. Smith 11:00AM Monday, February 13, 2006 at St. Ann?s Episcopal Church, 37 Division St. Amsterdam. Interment will take place in the spring in Broadalbin-Mayfield Rural Cemetery, Broadalbin, New York with full military honors. The family will receive relatives and friends on Sunday February 12, 2006 from 2:00-5:00 PM during which a Masonic Service will be conducted at 2:30 PM at the Betz, Rossi and Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to a charity of one?s choice c/o the funeral home.
