Obituary of John A. Calandra
Mr. John A. Calandra, 49, of Pittsford, N.Y. died suddenly on Friday September 8, 2006. Born in Melizzano, Italy on September 27, 1956, he moved with his family to Gloversville in 1963. Mr. Calandra was a graduate of Gloversville High School, Alfred University, and attended Rochester Institute of Technology in Rochester. He began working for the GM plant in Rochester now Delphi, and subsequently worked for Parkland Design in Rochester, where he was currently employed as a gauge design engineer. As a hobby, he enjoyed wood working. John was a very easy going person who made friends wherever he went. A strong family man, he was a devoted husband, father, son, brother and uncle. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife; Barbara Garibaldi Calandra of Pittsford, whom he married July 2, 1993, a son Phillip John Calandra of Pittsford, his parents; Filiberto and Armida Simone Calandra of Gloversville, a sister, Maria John Lomanto of Gloversville, a brother, Alberto Calandra of Rochester, a niece Nina Lomanto and a nephew Paul Lomanto. He is also survived by his father-in-law Eugene Garibaldi and his companion Henrietta Bates of St. Petersburg, Fla., several aunts, uncles and cousins. A prayer service will be held at 9:15 am Thursday from the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street Gloversville, and at 10 am, a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Church, Gloversville. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 4-8 pm at the funeral home. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown. Expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to a college fund for his son, Phillip John Calandra, C/O Barbara Calandra, and mailed to the funeral home.
