Obituary of Martha I. Strauser
Mrs. Martha I. Strauser, 101, of Gloversville, passed away on September 28, 2006. Born in Shamokin, PA, on January 27, 1905, she was the daughter of the late David Neyhard and Carrie Scot.
On January 12, 1924, she married John M. Strauser, and began a life as a homemaker and later, a mother. For the past six years, Mrs. Strauser resided at the Fulton County Residential Health Care Facility. On her 99th birthday, Mrs. Strauser remarked that she had a desire to live to be 100 years old, following in the footsteps of her favorite role model, the late Bob Hope. By reaching this, and then her 101st birthday, she achieved this goal and more. A woman of remarkable faith who raised a fine family, she will be greatly missed.
Mrs. Strauser is survived by her son Eugene L. Patricia Strausser of Mayfield, by her daughter Betty I. Paul A. Downing, and by her daughter in law, Helen Strausser. Mrs. Strauser is also survived by her 7 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren and her great great grandchild. She was predeceased by her husband, John M. Strauser, who passed away in September, 1982 and by her son, Monroe John Strauser. She was also predeceased by her brother Scotty Neyhard, by her twin brother and sister Richard Neynard and Edith Hess, and by her sisters Sara String and Charlotte Krouse.
A visitation will be held for friends and family on Monday, October 9 from 5-7 pm at the Walrath and Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, October 10, at 11 am with the Rev. Gordon Rakow officiating. Interment in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Gloversville will follow.
