Obituary of Claude C. Hands

Mr. Claude C. Hands, age 85, of Gloversville, died Saturday, September 30, 2006 at Mountain Valley Hospice, Gloversville. He was born October 30, 1920 in Gloversville, the son of the late Percy and Bertha Cornell Hands. A 1940 graduate of Gloversville High School, he served in the US Army from 1943 to 1945. He was employed as a steam-fitter by General Electric Company in Schenectady for over 30 years, retiring in 1981. Mr. Hands was a member of V.F.W. Post #2077, Pleasant Square Volunteer Fire Dept; the GE Quarter Century Club, and the former Gloversville Eagles Aerie. Claude was married on June 21, 1941 to Betty M. Chetwynd who survives. He is also survived by three children, Barbara Lee Hayes Jim of Englewood, FL; Linda Jean Harrington John of Sun City West, AZ and Judy Ann Hands of Gloversville; three grandchildren, Scott Hayes, Susan Hayes Manning and Jennifer Harrington; four great grandchildren, Ashley Hayes, Abby Hayes, Marissa Hayes and Jaxson Manning; two nephews and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his two sisters, Isabel Lippert and Betty Rauer. A private service will take place at the convenience of the family on Tuesday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, Gloversville, with the Rev. R. W. Williams officiating. There will be no calling hours. Interment will take place at FernDale Cemetery, Johnstown. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Mountain Valley Hospice, 108 Steele Avenue, Gloversville, NY 12078.
