Obituary of Doris Greene Conrad

Doris Greene Conrad, 85, of Bayard St., Amsterdam, passed away Friday evening October 20, 2006 at the E.L. Wilkinson residential Health Care Facility. Born in Amsterdam, NY on January 4, 1921. She was a daughter of Fred W. and Elisabeth Rothmeyer Greene. She was a life long resident of Amsterdam and was a 1938 Graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School and received her Associates Degree in Business from Ryder College in Trenton, New Jersey. She was employed as an Accountant for 15 retail stores and an Analyst Controller for Mohawk Carpet Mills in Amsterdam and Schenectady. She retired in 1950. She continued working at the same job part time until 1955. She was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Heralders Class of the church. She also sang choir for years, taught Sunday school and worked as a volunteer for the Montgomery County Day Center for Mental Health held at the church. She was a member of the Montgomery County Health Association and served as President for one year. She was a member of the Board of Directors for Montgomery County Transitional services and a recipient of the Ruth Voorhees Pierre Pelican Award. She was appointed by the Board of Supervisors to the Montgomery County Services Board and later served on the Mental Health Board Commission. She was a New York State Certified Ombudsman working with the patients of Montgomery Meadows for 7 years. She was a former Bowler for Mohawk Carpet Mills Office Team and played in State finals. She was also a member of the Mohawk Valley Chorus for 17 years. She was a former member of the Montgomery County Home Bureau. Mrs. Conrad was also active in the extension and was a former member of Sterling Care and Club 60. During World War II and following the war she was a Red Cross Aide at Amsterdam Memorial Hospital up until 1945. She was the member and treasurer of the Weiss Grove Campers Association at Galway Lake. She was the first woman to be a member of the Boy Scout Committee Troop 25 of St. Luke?s Church in Amsterdam serving as treasurer. Doris was also a Den Mother for Pack 39 at West Spring School and also Pack 39 at McNulty School. She married William F. Conrad on June 1, 1946. He died on January 9, 2002. She is survived by two Sons, David A. Conrad and her daughter in law Barbara Conrad of Amsterdam and Lorin R. Conrad of Manchester, New Hampshire; one brother, Melvin Greene of Conway, South Carolina; two grandchildren, Julie Fenton and her husband Christopher Fenton of Broadalbin and Jaime Morin and her husband Robert Morin of Amsterdam; two great-grandchildren, Avery Christine Fenton and Shelby Julianna Fenton. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, October 24, 2006 at 1:00PM at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam with the Rev. John Califano presiding. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery, Amsterdam. The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday prior to the funeral service from 11:00AM to 1:00PM at the funeral home.
