Obituary of Samuel Sal Landrio
Samuel ?Sal? Robert Landrio, 80, of Rockton Street, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle, passed away early Sunday morning at St. Mary?s Hospital in Amsterdam, New York.
Born on January 17, 1927 in Tribes Hill, he was the son of the late Salvatore and Anna J. Keller Landrio. He was a lifelong area resident and attended local schools. In 2001 he received his diploma from Gloversville High School because he was called to service in the United States Army during WWII.
Sal was employed for 20 years for the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance, retiring in 1990.
A musician for over 60 years, he played the drums and sang with many bands throughout the Capital District, as well as with his own band ?Touch of Class.? Sal was a member of the John J. Wyzomirski Post 701 and was a volunteer with the American Heart Association. As a parishioner of St. Mary?s Roman Catholic Church, he was also a Cub Master for St. Mary?s Pack 40 for 40 years. Sal served for many years on the Diocese of Albany Religious Awards Committee. He was proud to have helped boys receive their Parvuli Dei Award. He was a true friend to all, and will be missed dearly.
Sal was predeceased by a brother, Gerald Frank Landrio and a sister, Norma Jean Landrio.
His loving family includes his wife, the former Ida ?Edie? DiScenza, whom he married on November 25, 1951; one son, Dennis L. Landrio and his fiancé Cathy DiGiacomo of Amsterdam; one sister, Gloria Dominic Santa Maria of Gloversville; three brothers, Harold Landrio of Gloversville, Richard Jane Landrio of North Syracuse, L. Bernard Mary Landrio of Johnstown; four grandchildren, Michael and Kyle Landrio and Maria and Danielle DiGiacomo; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, February 22, 2007 at 8:15 a.m. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:15 a.m. at St. Mary?s Roman Catholic Church, 156 East Main Street, Amsterdam. Interment will take place in St. Michael?s Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited and may call from 4 until 7 Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary?s Church or to the American Heart Association in care of the funeral home.
