Obituary of Ellis L. Jacobson
Ellis L. Jacobson, 91, of 10th Avenue North, Lake Worth Florida, passed away Tuesday afternoon at his summer residence in Northville, New York.
Born in Norwood, New York on June 25, 1915, he was the son of Samuel and Sarah Cohen Jacobson. He moved with his family to Amsterdam, New York in 1919. Ellis graduated from Cornell University with a BA in Arts and Science in 1937. He became service manager of his father?s auto agency.
Following his marriage to the former Claire Pick in 1940, he entered the US Army. After graduation from Officer?s Candidate School, he served as Executive Officer and acting Battalion Commander in the 84th Division. He was honorably discharged in 1946 with the rank of Lt. Col., and remained in the Reserves until 1953.
He then returned to his family?s business and also owned and operated the former Ellis L. Jacobson Agency in Amsterdam. He enjoyed traveling and his summers at Sacandaga Lake. He was a resident of Florida for the past thirty years.
He held offices in both the Congregation Sons Of Israel and Temple Of Israel, and was past president of B?nai B?rith and past commander of the Jewish War Veterans.
He maintained a lifelong love of the theater and the arts.
His wife of fifty-one years, Claire, passed away in 1991. He married the former Dorothy Naple in 2002, who survives.
In addition to his wife, he leaves a son; Bren Jacobson of Annapolis, Md.; a daughter; Gael Jacobson of Fayston, Vermont; stepsons; John, Steven, Richard, William and Timothy Naple; step daughter; Marie Naple; grandchildren; Jess, Seth, and Ahn Jacobson; twenty step grandchildren, sister in law; Vivian Jacobson as well as his niece, Lois Seigal. His sister, Sonya and her husband Samuel Seigal and recently his brother, Henry Jacobson all predeceased him.
Services are Friday at 11:00 a.m. at the Congregation Sons Of Israel Synagogue, 355 Guy Park Avenue. Rabbi Geoffrey Claussen officiating. Interment will follow in Temple Israel Cemetery, Cranesville. A calling hour will precede the service at 10:00 am. Contributions may be made to the Synagogue, 355 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam NY 12010.
His family has entrusted his arrangements to the care of the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam, NY.
