Obituary of Henry H. Smith
Mr. Henry H. Smith, age 88 of Gloversville, died Wednesday, April 4, 2007 at Nathan Littauer Hospital Emergency Room after being stricken at home.
He was born January 2, 1919 in Gloversville, the son of the late Fay and Sophia Barlow Smith. He served in the Army during WWII from 1941 to 1945. He was employed at for 45 years at Gifford?s Garage in Johnstown which later became Kentris Chevrolet, where he retired as service manager in 1980. He then worked for four years at Montoney?s Garage, last was employed by Procita Oldsmobile Cadillac, Gloversville.
Mr. Smith was of the United Methodist faith. He loved hunting and fishing, and also enjoyed woodworking and making Christmas ornaments.
He was married December 24, 1941 to his wife of 65 years, Mildred Mae Lewis who survives. Also surviving is his daughter, Sharon L. Rogers William; two grandchildren, Trisha L. Rogers-byrns Todd and David H. Rogers Melissa; two great-grandchildren, Kody Jamison Rogers and Zachary Daniel Byrns.
The family will receive friends from 12 to 2 pm Saturday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville. A private funeral service will take place at the convenience of the family with the Rev. Christopher Hamm officiating. Interment will take place at East Galway Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flower to the Nathan Littauer Hospital Nursing Home, 99 E. State St; Gloversville, or to the North Main St. United Methodist Church, 316 N. Main St; Gloversville, or to the James A. Brennan Memorial Humane Society, 437 Nine Mile Tree Road, Gloversville, NY 12078.
