Obituary of Michael Joseph Lizio

Mr. Michael Joseph Lizio, age 51 of Johnstown, died Saturday, June 23, 2007 at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam, with his family and friends at his side. He was born on September 3, 1955 in Gloversville, the son of the late Thomas Jr. and Rose Brown Lizio. A lifelong Johnstown resident, he was a 1973 graduate of Johnstown High School. Michael was very involved in and enjoyed his children?s sporting events. He coached Little League Baseball and was President of the Fulton County Babe Ruth Baseball League until his illness. He also was an active fan of the Buffalo Bills and the New York Yankees, and enjoyed attending many of their games. He loved animals, and was an avid harness horse racing fan. At one time he owned a horse that raced at the night track at Saratoga in the early 1980?s. He also enjoyed his children?s friends, and was considered a ?Second Dad? to many of them. Michael was first employed by the family-owned Lizio Service Stations in Johnstown and Gloversville for many years. He later worked at Paul Thompson?s Service Station for several years, and with his in-laws at the former Alida?s Appliances in Gloversville. He last worked for the Greater Johnstown School District until his illness came along in 2004. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church of Johnstown, and was a former member of both the Eagles and Moose Lodges in Johnstown. Survivors include his wife, Linda M. Parillo Lizio whom he married on May 12, 1984; two children, Micholyn R. Lizio and Gregory M. Lizio of Johnstown; a sister, Roberta J. Bruce Becker of Mayfield; five nieces and nephews, Christine Stevens, Gregory House, Laurie House, William House and Scott Lizio; two aunts, Nina Santos and Grace Ben Santos; several cousins including Phil ?Flip? Connor who was like a brother to Mike; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Paul and Angie Parillo of Gloversville; sister-in-law, Rita Lizio of Gloversville and brother-in-law, John House of Gloversville. He was preceded in death by his siblings Thomas W. Lizio and Kathryn J. House. The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 7 pm Tuesday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville, where a prayer service will be held at 10:30 am Wednesday with the Rev. Kenneth Swain officiating. Acting as bearers will be Greg House, Billy House, Scott Lizio, Greg Parillo, Scott Parillo and Antonio Parillo, all nephews of Michael. Honorary bearers will be Emanuel Santos, Greg Horning, Aaron Mraz, Derek Brown, Bill Capasso, Phil "Flip" Connor, Dick Nellis and Paul Sedal. Interment will take place at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Johnstown Little League, P.O. Box 931, Johnstown, NY 12095 or to the James A. Brennan Memorial Humane Society, 437 Nine Mile Tree Road, Gloversville, NY 12078 or to JAVAC, P.O. Box 523, Johnstown, NY 12095.
