Obituary of Barbara A. Reidy

Barbara A. Reidy, 67, of Columbia St., Amsterdam, passed away Sunday July 29, 2007 at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, NY. Born in Amsterdam, NY on June 6, 1940 the only child of Anthony and Josephine Sigler Bloziecis. She was a lifelong resident of Amsterdam and was a 1958 Graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School where she was the leader of the Marching Rams Majorette?s and was very active in the school Drama Club. Mrs. Reidy also attended an airline stewardess school in Hartford Connecticut. She worked for the New York State Taxation & Finance Department in the 1960?s. She was a homemaker until 1979; she furthered her education at the College of St. Rose in Albany where she received her degree in elementary education. She first taught as a student teacher at an Elementary School in Albany?s Arbor Hill area and Glendale School of the Scotia-Glenville School District. Her Teaching career began at the Tryon School for Girls, then teaching at St. Mary?s Institute in Amsterdam and finally teaching for almost 20 years at the former St. Stanislaus School in Amsterdam. She was a parishioner of St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam and a member of the church?s altar rosary society. Mrs. Reidy was very active in her community. She was a volunteer at the former Green?s Corner School which was a one room schoolhouse in Amsterdam. She was a member of the PTA of the former Bacon Elementary School and also the St. Stanislaus School. She was a former member of the Century Club in Amsterdam, a member of the 1958 Class Reunion Committee, and Past President of the Emblem Club #273 serving two years and was the club?s current Chaplain. Barbara loved to travel. She also enjoyed going to the Saratoga Race Track and wearing the traditional hats on opening day. She enjoyed boating, cruises, gardening, shopping and visiting various farm stands, casinos and flea markets. She was an avid baker, baking and decorating special occasion cakes and cookies. Her most important love was to be with her husband Bob, her children, and grandchildren. She married Robert ?Bob? L. Reidy on May 21, 1961 in addition to her husband survivor?s include her four beloved daughters, Renee Lea Bramer and her Husband Darrell of Manassas Park, Va, Laura Lea Perry and her husband Michael of Amsterdam, Deidre Lea Purcell and her husband Timothy of Clifton Park, NY, Allison Lea Reidy-Bialobok and her husband Bruce of Lewisville, N.C. Six Cherished grandchildren, Morgan, Reid & Stephen Perry, Corey and Madison Purcell and Robert V. Reidy- Bialobok. One niece, several cousins also survive. Her special friends are Louise and Dick Healy of Amsterdam, Dr. Govind and Jyothi Rao of Amsterdam, Chris Barkevich of Galway, Diane Chevalier of Ballston Spa, Mary Sampone of Amsterdam and Jean Matzke of New Hampshire. A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday August 1, 2007 at 10:00A.M. at St. Stanislaus Roman Catholic Church, Cornell St., Amsterdam with the Rev. David Wm. Mickiewicz as celebrant. Interment of cremated remains will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Amsterdam at a later date. The family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday, July 31, 2007 from 6:00 to 8:00P.M. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, New York. It is Barbara?s wish that there be no flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to the Hope Lodge of Buffalo or the New Approaches to Brain Tumor Therapy NABTT in care of the funeral home.
