Obituary of Eugene P. Squillace
Eugene P. ?Gene? Squillace, 59, of Center Street, passed away suddenly Wednesday morning at St. Mary?s Hospital.
Born in Amsterdam on January 21, 1948, he was the only child of the late Eugene and Anna Salerno Squillace. A 1966 graduate of Wilbur H. Lynch High School, Gene worked for a time for the former Dantini?s Market prior to being drafted in 1968. He served for two years during the Vietnam era in Korea with the US Army. Discharged as a corporal in 1970, he moved to New York City and began a career in photography. In 1975, he returned to Amsterdam where he has since lived. For the past seventeen years, Gene has worked for the City Of Amsterdam?s Waste Water Treatment Plant as a co-ordinater.
He was a communicant of St. Mary?s Roman Catholic Church.
On December 12, 1980, he was united in marriage to the former Anastaisa Dopp. A devoted husband and father, he will also be missed by his children; Jason P. Amy Squillace of Amsterdam, Erika J. Squillace of Amsterdam, and Jacob L. Squillace a student at SUNY IT in Utica; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Gene was also predeceased by a special cousin, Michael Pallotta.
Services are Saturday at 8:30 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, followed by the Mass Of Christian Burial at 9:15 am at St. Mary?s Church. Interment is in St. Mary?s Cemetery, Ft. Johnson. Calling hours are Friday from 4-8 pm at the funeral home. Contributions may be made to a charity of one?s choice in his memory.
