Obituary of Robert Lanphere
Mr. Robert B. ?Lamie? Lanphere, age 76 of Gloversville, died Thursday, October 18, 2007 at his home with his family at his side, following a long struggle with leukemia.
Lamie was born August 31, 1931 in Gloversville, the son of the late Herman and Sylvia Pettit Lanphere. He was a 1949 graduate of Gloversville High School. In his younger years Lamie delivered milk for Brownell´s Dairy, and then worked at Washburn´s Dairy. He later was employed at McCue´s Auto Parts. In 1980, Lamie and a partner formed Lamie´s Auto Supply. He retired from the business in 1997.
Lamie was active in Boy Scounting many years ago. He was a member of the Peevo Golf League, Sacred Heart Church, and was past High Court Chief Ranger of the former Ancient Order of Foresters. He was currently serving as a member of the Gloversville Water Board of Commissioners and President of the Nichol Vly Camp. He enjoyed oil painting and loved the outdoors. His real passion, however, was woodworking. A wonderful story-teller, Lamie was well-known for having a great sense of humor. He deeply loved and was very proud his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Marilyn J. Ferrara Lanphere, whom he married on October 21, 1956. Also surviving are a son, Gregory S. Lanphere; two sisters, Alyce M. Lanphere and Shirley J. Lanphere; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his other son, Robert M. ?Chops? Lanphere, and his brother, Herman Lanphere.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm Monday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, where a prayer service will be conducted 9:15 am Tuesday, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am at Sacred Heart Church. The Very Reverend Donald Czelusniak will be the celebrant. Interment will take place at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown.
