Obituary of Ernest H. Tartaglia

Ernest H. Tartaglia, 74, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, October 24, 2007 at Nathan Littauer Hospital in Gloversville. Born July 17, 1933, he was the son of the late Mary and Herman Tartaglia of Gloversville. Ernest was a graduate of Gloversville High School where he became an outstanding football player. He enlisted in the United States Air Force soon after graduation, during which time he achieved the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. After retirement from the Air Force, Ernie returned to the Gloversville area to be near his friends and family. Ernie was a faithful member of the Assembly of God Church in Gloversville. He was also a lifelong member of the Concordia Club. Ernie was predeceased by his parents, Mary and Herman Tartaglia and a brother, Albert Tartaglia of Gloversville. He is survived by two daughters: Glee Needham of Warrensburg and Brenda Tartaglia of Westminster, South Carolina; three sisters: Philomena Goodberlet of Amsterdam, Anna Gerald Howard of Vista, California and Amy James Alexander of Vista, California; two brothers: John Peggy Tartaglia of Gloversville and Victor Pat Tartaglia of Sidney, New York; and his three grandchildren: Stacy Needham, Chanelle Needham and Kara Merrill. He is also survived by his cousins: John Carol Tartaglia of Minneapolis, MN, Phyllis Anthony Guiffre of Gloversville and MaryAnn Frank Rourke of New Mexico and several nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited and may call at Walrath and Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street in Gloversville on Sunday from 5-8 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday with Reverend Matthew Splitgerber, Pastor of the Assembly of God officiating. Burial, with full military honors, will be at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Johnstown.
