Obituary of Janet D. Spaeth
Mrs. Janet D. Spaeth, age 86, died suddenly on Friday, December 7, 2007 at her apartment at Kingsboro Towers in Gloversville.
She was born on February 17, 1921 in Canandaigua, NY, the daughter of the late Marvin and Minnie Buckley Durand. A 1939 graduate of Gloversville High School, Janet also attended the Albany Business School. She was employed by St. Thomas Inc. for 17 years until her retirement in 1983.
Janet was a member of the Women of the Moose, the VFW Auxiliary and the American Legion Auxiliary, all of Gloversville. She enjoyed her visits to the VFW, playing cards especially Pitch and was a fan of the New York Giants Football and St. Louis Cardinals Baseball teams.
She was married on July 7, 1945 to Marvin E. Spaeth who died April 13, 2004. Survivors include two children, Kathleen Ecker Mark of Rotterdam and John M. Spaeth Barbara of Northville; a sister, Emily Davison Kenneth of Mayfield; three grandchildren, Jeffrey Ecker, Philip Spaeth and Sarah Zogg; a great granddaughter, Emma Spaeth; several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by five siblings, Marvin Durand, William Durand, Lois Rudy, Adah Clemente and Evelyn Mellone.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 12 noon to 1 pm Monday, December 10, 2007 at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, where a Legacy Candle Ceremony will follow at 1 pm. Interment will take place at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville. Memorial contributions may be made to V.F.W. Post #2077, 20 Third Ave., Gloversville, NY 12078.
