Obituary of Ingeborg M. Smith
Mrs. Ingeborg M. Smith, age 83 of Gloversville, died Saturday, February 16, 2008 at Nathan Littauer Hospital Nursing Home with all of her family at her side. Her death followed a short illness.
She was born on May 26, 1924 in Berlin, Germany, the daughter of the late Rudolf and Elisabeth Wrusch Unger. She graduated from high school in Berlin, and was attending college there when her education was interrupted by the affects of World War II. She acted as an interpreter for the allied forces in Germany during the war. In 1948 she and her family came to this country, first in Georgia and then settling in Gloversville.
Inge was first employed here as a bookkeeper at the former Imperial Glove Company, then she became the Tax Collector for the Gloversville School District. She retired from Nathan Littauer Hospital as an insurance clerk. Following her retirement Inge work part-time at Peck's Flowers.
Mrs. Smith was a member of the former First United Methodist Church of Gloversville, where she was the Treasurer at one time. She was also a member of the Concordia Club and was the former treasurer of the Kingsboro Towers Tennants Association.
She was married to Raymond E. Smith, Sr. who died March 15, 1982. She is survived by four children, Edna Anadio Peter of Gloversville, Raymond E. Smith, Jr. Margaret of Ballston Lake, Pamela L. Smith Joe Crocetta of Gloversville and Michele K. Clark Robert of North Carolina; a sister, Gudrun Schutze of Germany; 13 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews in Germany. She was preceded in death by her other sister, Siegren Geisler.
There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will take place at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville on Thursday, August 7 at 11am. Interment will follow at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Judes Research Hospital, Box 3704, Memphis, TN, 38103.
