Obituary of James F. Dufel
James F. Dufel 84 years old of Sacandaga Road, died Wednesday, September 10, 2008, at St. Mary's Hospital after a brief illness.
Born in the former Amsterdam City Hospital, April 15, 1924, he was the son of William F. Dufel and Dorothy Benton Dufel. He graduated from the former Wilber H. Lynch High School and was a long time area resident. Mr. Dufel served with the U.S. Army during WW2.
He was employed by The Recorder in news printing for 44 years, retiring in 1986. He was active in the Tribes Hill Presbyterian Church and served as a deacon and an elder. He was also an active teacher in the Church School. Jim was very involved in the local Boy Scout troop 34 and was a member of the Iroquois Seniors.
Many of his interests included local history, reading and geology.
Survivors are his wife, the former Mary E. McCullough whom he married in 1950, a daughter Susan E. Dufel MD of Killingworth, Connecticut, and a son Timothy J. Dufel of Troy, New York and three grandchildren Alexa Skoulis, Kelly and Helen Dufel. Three sisters also survive him: Winifred Goodemote of Westerlo, NY, Ruth Gavin of Johnstown, NY and Dorothy Jean Dufel of Johnstown, NY and a brother David H. Dufel who resides in Florida as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will be held 11:00am Monday at the Tribes Hill Presbyterian Church with The Rev. Lois Dodge officiating. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery. Relatives and friends may call on Sunday from 2:00 until 4:30pm at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam.
