Obituary of Colleen Parker Perry

Colleen Parker Perry, 77, died Sunday, October 5, 2008 at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam, NY. She was born in Mayfield on August 28, 1931 the daughter of Alwinnie Richard and the late Avis Knapp Parker. Colleen graduated Mayfield High School in 1948 and Albany Business School in 1949. She started her employment with Travelers Insurance Co. in Albany. She married Thomas Leo Perry in July 1951. She worked as a secretary for United Aircraft in East Hartford, CT for 20 years, through the company's relocation to their West Palm Beach, FL. locale. After retiring from United Aircraft, Colleen worked as a secretary at Palm Beach Community College for the Dean of Instruction several additional years. She shared 37 years of marriage with Thomas until he passed away in 1988. Colleen was a caring daughter, a devoted mother, and a generously loving grandmother. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and treasured her. Survivors include her father, Alwinnie Parker and Colleen's step-mother Marilyn Parker of Mayfield; a daughter, Joan Perry Libby and her husband Robert of Ballston Spa; two sons: Thomas Leo Perry Jr. and his companion Belinda Harrison of Longmont, CO and John Parker Perry and his wife Sandra Ess Perry of Jupiter, FL; seven grandchildren: Nellie Perry Moulton, Bonnie Jo Moulton, Kelsey Carmela Libby, Leo Richard Perry, Nicholas Parker Perry, George Thomas Perry and Jessie Harrison; a great grandchild expected in May 2009, child of Leo and Emily Kerfoot Perry and two step-sisters: Cheryl Liitt Callis and Janis Liitt Inglis. Colleen was predeceased by her husband, her mother and her brother, Melvin Richard Parker. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 1 to 2pm at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St., Gloversville. A funeral service will follow at 2pm at the funeral home with the Rev. R.W. Williams officiating. Committal services will follow in Union Rural Cemetery in Mayfield. In lieu of flowers, donations in Colleen's memory may be made to the James Brennan Humane Society, 437 Nine Mile Tree Road, Gloversville, NY 12078.
