Obituary of Abraham Bushman
Abraham Bushman, 90, of Robb Road, passed away peacefully Tuesday evening at St. Mary's Hospital.
Born in Newark, NJ on November 13, 1918, he was the son of Fred and Rebecca Greenwald Bushman. He lived in New Jersey and later for a number of years in the Los Angeles area until moving here in 1981.
He was employed for a time in California for the Pacific Cold Storage Company.
During World War II, he proudly served his country as a tech sergeant in the US Army. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star for his service. He served with the 33rd infantry regiment in the Panama Canal Zone until the onset of World War II; he then served with the 5307th Composite Unit in China, Burma and India. Abe was a member of the famous "Merrill's Marauders Association" for that service. In his retirement years, he enjoyed tending his small farm but his happiest moments were spent with his grandson and pal Wyatt.
He was united in marriage to the former Sylvia Bogner on November 11, 1945. She predeceased him on December 26, 1994.
He leaves his children, Mark D. and his wife Menchie Bushman of Amsterdam, Larry F. Bushman of Jonesborough, TN and Laura Carron of Sugarcreek, Ohio; his grandchildren, Wyatt Bushman, Ashton & Hayes Bushman, Clay, Rebecca and Jamie Carron.
A service of remembrance will take place Saturday at 11:00 am at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue. Interment will follow with military honors in Pine Grove Cemetery, Tribes Hill. A calling hour will precede the service at 10:00 am. Contributions may be made to the Disabled American Veterans in care of the funeral home office.
