Obituary of Robert A. Nethaway

Robert A. "Duke" Nethaway 38, of Wall Street, passed away Friday morning at St. Mary's Hospital in Amsterdam after a long illness. Born June 28, 1970 in Amsterdam, New York he was the son of Marilyn Stokna Nethaway and the late Robert A. Nethaway. He was a 1988 graduate of the Amsterdam High School and he attended SUNY of Delhi. Duke was a twenty year member of the Fort Johnson Fire Department and in 2001 received the Fireman of the Year Award. He also was a member of the Sons of the American Legion John J. Wyszomirski Post 701; member and road ambulance for the G.A.V.A.C. for a number of years. He was an avid NASCAR fan and his favorite drivers where Dale Earnhardt Sr. and Dale Jr., he participated and organized local car shows. He also loved the Miami Dolphins Football Team. Survivors include his loving family, his mother Marilyn Nethaway of Fort Johnson; a sister, Michelle Vince Pettica of Amsterdam; a dear niece Abigail; a loving nephew and Godson Justin; Godson Adrean; several aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 2, 2009, at 11:00 AM at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue, Amsterdam. Cremation will follow at the Vale Crematory in Schenectady. A calling hour will be held from 10 to 11 AM at the funeral home. The Fort Johnson Fire department will give a service at 10 AM. The Sons of the American Legion will say a prayer at 10:30AM. The family has requested no flowers.
