Obituary of Colleen L. Gallup
Mrs. Colleen L. Gallup, age 82, of Mayfield, passed away Saturday, February 28, 2009 at Oak Hill Hospital, Spring Hill, Florida. Colleen is survived by her husband, Sherrill Gallup, Sr; her son, Sherrill Gallup, Jr. of Mayfield; her daughter, Caroline Jolly of Spring Hill, Florida; her daughter, Susan Erb of Wells; and predeceased by her son, Mark Aaron Gallup of Mayfield in 1989. She is also survived by her aunt, Josephine Havlick and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her sister, Marilyn Vobrua and her brother, Raymond Hill, Jr.
Colleen and Sherrill were married March 18th, 1946 at the Trinity Episcopal Church in Gloversville by Rev. Kaulfuss. She was a devoted wife of 62 years and raised four children. She and her husband spent the past few years as snowbirds visiting their daughter and son-in-law in Florida. She is a member of Mayfield Methodist Church and a charter member of the Mayfield Lions Club. She loved books and enjoyed reading. She was an avid gardener, loved her flower garden and watching and feeding the birds. She loved to draw and paint beautiful pictures of nature. She always enjoyed cooking for her family and friends.
She graduated from Gloversville High School in 1945, and she worked at General Dry Battery part time while attending school. Colleen worked at St. Thomas Leather Goods in Gloversville. She and her husband Sherrill owned and operated Sherry's Dry Cleaners for 13 years, and she held a real estate license under Gallup Realty. After closing down their dry cleaning business, she worked for nearly nine years at the Fulton County Infirmary, after which she retired for health reasons.
Colleen was known for her kindness and loving and gentle heart. She always had a smile on her face and laughter in her life. Colleen will always be loved and greatly missed by her family and friends.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 6th at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville, where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday with the Rev. Jerry Oliver officiating. A graveside service followed by interment will take place at 11am on Wednesday, May 27 at Union Rural Cemetery, Mayfield.
