Obituary of Bernard S. Logan
Mr. Bernard S. Logan, age 98, of Gloversville, died Tuesday, July 28, 2009 at St. Mary's Hospital, Amsterdam.
He was born April 15, 1911 in New York City, the son of the late Albert L.C. and Mary Lowden Logan. His family came to Gloversville when he was three years of age. Soon after graduating from Gloversville High School in 1929 he worked at the former Trust Company of Fulton County as a message runner. Following various promotions he became Trust Officer for many years while the bank operated as the National Commercial Bank and Trust Company and also as The Bank. He retired in 1976 as Assistant Vice President and Manager following 46 years of service to the organization now known as Key Bank.
Bernie, as he was known to many, was a member of the Gloversville Lions Club for over 60 years and was a member of the Board of Directors of Ferndale Cemetery for many years. He attended the First Presbyterian Church.
His many interests included the stock market and buying and selling real estate. He was an avid reader and enjoyed sailing, snow skiing, photography and hiking in High Peaks as a young man. He and his wife Jessie loved to travel in New England and the coast, which became a family favorite as the children were born.
Bernie was married on August 27, 1938 to Jessica Lake who died May 1, 1999. Survivors include four children, Susan L. Lebo of Esperance, John G. Logan of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, Richard J. Logan Linda of Gloversville and Martha Logan King of Oswego; seven grandchildren, Yahn Lebo Margaret, Heather Bivins Jeffrey, John Logan, Jr. Patty, Jeffrey Logan Patty, Dustin Logan, Christian King and Adam King and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Colonel William Bruce Logan.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 2 to 5 p.m. Friday, July 31, 2009 at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, where a funeral service will follow at 5:00 p.m. with the Rev. Carson O. Mouser officiating. Cremation will follow at Park View Crematorium, Schenectady. Memorial contributions may be made to the Gloversville Lions Club, P.O. Box 8, Gloversville, NY 12078
