I remember Mrs. Beyer I always called her that as being a rock... solid, permanent, and always there. In the late 60s she was the center of my compass, whether she knew it or not, lending stability to this 21 year old wife and mother living in a strange place, far from home, during unsettled times. It wasn't that I needed her to talk to. It was enough knowing that she was there, just in case.
She may be physically gone now, but she will always live in my memory, 40 years later, up that hill on Truax Road, with a wide smile on her face as she says "Well, hello! It's good to see you."
Rest in peace, Mrs. Beyer. You survived all of our craziness, and now you get your final reward. Be seeing you soon...
