Obituary of Harold John Morey
Mr. Harold "John" Morey, Jr; age 84, of Gloversville, died Sunday, December 13, 2009 at Nathan Littauer Hospital, Gloversville.
After a short illness John has finally passed to a place of love, beauty and peace. The comment was made by one of his nurses that she couldn't imagine what his heart was made of; it beat so strongly against his illness. Anyone who knew John knows that his heart was made of the purest gold.
He was born November 23, 1925 in Gloversville, the son of the late Harold and Mary Pitchanau Morey. For several years John lived on the west coast and was employed as a shoe salesman in California. He returned home to Gloversville to take a part in the well-being of his mother and his step-father, Robert Oare. He worked as a salesman at the former Mile's Shoe Store and later became merchandise manager at the former Family Bargain Center where he retired from in 1970.
John was a very family-oriented man. The thing he loved most in this life was a large family gathering. His favorite holiday was Christmas. How fittingly it is that this year he was invited home for Christmas to be with the real Christmas Baby - Jesus Christ!
Survivors include his brother, Robert H. Morey of Gloversville, several nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. He was preceded in death by parents, his stepfather and his sister, Alice Andrest.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 3 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville, where a funeral service will follow at 4:00 p.m. with Pastor Peter R. Ellis officiating. Interment will take place at Broadalbin Union Rural Cemetery, Broadalbin. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the humane society of your choice.
