Obituary of Daniel Gatto

Daniel Gatto, 77, of Division Street, passed away Wednesday at the Samuel Stratton V.A. Medical Center following a sudden illness. Born in Pisciotta, Province Of Salerno, Italy on July 23, 1932 he was the son of the late Ferdinando and Enrichetta Gatto. He emigrated to the United States in 1945 and lived in Amsterdam for many years. A barber by trade, he worked in that capacity for thirty years at the State University Of New York in Albany. Following his retirement, he was currently working part time at the Turn Pike Barber Shop in Albany. Dan loved his profession because it enabled him to meet many people through the years who have become dear friends. His family was the center of his life and he greatly loved spending time with them, especially his adored grandchildren. He was a long time parishioner of the former St. Michael The Archangel Church and currently Our Lady Of Mount Carmel parish. Dan was a member of the St. Agnello Congrega and the Columbian Social Club. His loving family includes his wife, the former Maria Giovanna Guida; his son Frank and his wife Holly Gatto; and his grandchildren Daniel and Anja Gatto all of Amsterdam; his sister; Christina Dallesandro of Milan, Italy as well as nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother Frank Gatto. A Mass Of Christian Burial will be offered Monday at 11:00 am at Our Lady Of Mt. Carmel Church. Fr. Lawrence J. Decker, celebrant. Relatives and friends are invited and may call on Sunday from 2-5 pm at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Avenue. The St. Agnello Congrega and the Columbian Social Club will both gather at 4:30 pm Sunday to pay respects to their brother member. Interment is in St. Mary's Cemetery, Ft. Johnson. Contributions may be made to Mt. Carmel Church Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home office.
