To Dan's Family and Friends,
I have been in Mexico since late December and was shocked when I went to Turnpike today and learned of Dan's passing. With the exception of a couple of haircuts while I was traveling, Dan was the only person to cut my hair since 1967.
I remember that before I met Dan, as a long-haired college student in the mid-60's I often encountered hostility from barbers. Dan treated me with the same courtesy he gave all his customers and made me a client for life. Over the years I saw him do same for every one of his customers, including those of all races, genders and lifestyles.
I will miss our discussions about soccer, I learned much about the sport from him. I also enjoyed hearing about his family, especially his grandchildren.
I will find another barber, but I'll never find another Dan.

I wish to express my sympathy for your loss. I learned only today of Dan's passing. I got to know him over the last 10 years at the Turnpike Barbershop. I want you to know I greatly admired him. He was more than a barber to me. He was a dear friend and I will always remember him.

I am sorry for your loss. I found out today when I went to see Dan for a hair cut. I saw him just before Christmas. I first met Dan at SUNY and he has been my friend, not just a barber ever since for the last 35 years. I will miss him terribly as I know all of you will but I will always carry the fond memories of him with me. Frank, take care of his Fig tree.

To the Gatto family,
I'm so sorry for your loss, I will miss him terribly, and he was like a father to me. He spoiled us rotten at our shop. He was a real gentleman; he loved to come to work, his customers were lucky to have him no matter what he would take his time on them and talk about everything from sports to politics and was very knowledgeable about it all. I still can’t believe its real; I'm going to miss him so much it is painful. I would like to stay in touch with Jenny & Frank you know were we are so don't hesitate to call. Our love and prayers are with you. Lori

Dan was such a caring man; always interested in his patrons and eager to hear the latest news of our family. He will leave a large empty space in his family and in the barber shop. Our condolences to his family and many friends.

Gatto Family:
I had known Dan for many years beginning in Latham where he would work on Saturdays at the local barber shop and more recently at the Turnpike shop in Guilderland.
As a former Amsterdam resident, I would look forward to catching up on local Amsterdam news with him every month.
I will miss him and send my good thoughts and prayers to the family.

I was extremely saddened to learn of Dan's recent passing. I knew him over forty years from when I was a graduate student at SUNY- Albany to his employment at Turnpike Barber shop. His knowledge of current events and his customers was impressive, but his kind, gentle demeanor, ability to listen, and other character traits made him an especially memorable human being. My condolences to all members of his family, whom he clearly loved and adored. May he rest in peace!

I was very sorrying to hear of Dan's passing. I went to Dan's shop for nearly all my years at SUNY as well as his later shop on Western. I remember fondly his stories of Italy, his home winemaking, and his ability to know the names and activities of all his clients. i send my sincere sympathy.

I was one of Dan's steady customers for forty years, first at the University Campus Center and then on Western AVe. He had an encyclopedic memory of the SUNYA faculty and could always tell you whom he had seen most recently, their departments and travels. I greatly enjoyed conversing with him, particularly after our visits to Italy and will miss him.

It makes me very sad to know that Danny has passed away. He was a great friend to both my mother and father for over forty years. After my mother passed away, Danny remained a part of my father's life and made that period of time easier for us all just by being a part of our lives. Danny was a great friend. I will miss that. I knew Danny since I was child. My fond memories of him will always be with me.

Danny was a great friend our relationship was way to short. I met him through my best friend Tony Rizzio. Although I'm only 34 Danny took a liking to me and always said what a wonderful young man. We had the beauty industry in common and would talk about it including all things italian. About 5 yrs ago he gave me one of his potted fig trees. I was honored and It still grows today, and I cherish it. I will never forget that, a wonderful man and friend. So sorry for the loss, may god bless him and all the family, I will miss him dearly.

TUESDAY'S WITH DANNY! I will forever miss walking into work on Tuesday morning and hearing Danny say "Good Morning Tracy." I have many wonderful memories of Danny. He would always bring me in lunch on Tuesday, his fried zucchini flowers from his garden. I never watched a soccer game then one day Danny said to me, Tracy turn on ESPN2. From that day on every Tuesday we would make a bet on what team would win. Danny would let me pick a team, as long as the team wasn't from Italy If my team won, the bet was, he had to take me to the restaurant of my choice, if Dan's team won, I take him to McDonald's and he could order anything off the Dollar Menu!. I will miss you Danny and my Tuesday's will never be the same again! I am blessed to have know you and your stories and memories will live on in my heart, I love you and miss you!
