Obituary of Salvino V. Susi
Mr. Salvino V. "Sal" Susi, 85, of Miami Lakes, FL died peacefully on Wednesday, January 6, 2010 after a brief illness in Maine.
Born in Canajoharie, NY on April 1, 1924 he was the son of the late Samuel and Giovanna "Jennie" Schiavo Susi. Sal was educated in Canajoharie Schools and enlisted in the United States Navy following the attack on Pearl Harbor. After his honorable discharge, Sal attended Ithaca College and later Appalachian State University. He then moved to Florida where he began his teaching career.
Mr. Susi was an educator for over 35 years. He was first employed as a Physical Education teacher at Hialeah Junior High and later at Hialeah High School. He was then appointed to assistant principal at Rockway Junior High before becoming principal at Edison Junior High and Westview Middle Schools. In 1974 he was then appointed Principal at his beloved Hialeah Senior High where he proudly served as Principal of the T-Bred family until his retirement in 1984.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, the former Patricia Roberts; a son, Richard Michael; a daughter, Jenni Lynn Susi- Taylor and her husband Donn; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his brother, Samuel Susi.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Monday, January 11, 2010 at 10 o'clock at Our Lady of Hope Roman Catholic Church, 63 Cliff Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317 with the Rev. James E. Clark as celebrant. Relatives and friends are invited and may call from 1 until 3 o'clock on Sunday, January 10, 2010 at the Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317. Interment will take place at a later date in St. Peter's & Paul's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Sisters of St. Joseph B. Cottolengo, 15701 NW 37th Avenue, Opa Locka, FL 33054-6373.
