Obituary of Magdaline Tasheff Folmsbee

Mrs. Magdaline Tasheff Folmsbee of Mayfield, NY passed away peacefully at the Wesley Health Care Center in Saratoga Springs on Sunday, February 28th, 2010 after a brief illness. She was 88. Maggie, as she was always known, was born at home above the family grocery store on September 27, 1921, along with her twin sister, Virginia, to Stoil and Petra Ivanova Tasheff. She was a proud graduate of Gloversville High School, and in 1940 was in the class of seventeen young women who graduated from Brodean Business School at which time she was accepted as a member of the office staff at J.W. Sisson and Company. She worked at Fulton County National Bank for several years during which time she met and became engaged to and then married Earl Folmsbee in 1946. They celebrated 60 years of marriage prior to Earl's passing in 2007. Maggie was a devoted wife and mother, while continuing her employment life as an insurance agent with the Schermerhorn Insurance Agency on Main Street in the Glove City and also assisted in her husband's business, Johnstown Bowling Center, as a bookkeeper and cook for the Center's restaurant. Maggie thrived on constant activity. In her younger days she loved tennis, ice-skating, cross country skiing and snowmobiling. She thoroughly enjoyed life on the Great Sacandaga Lake where she and Earl created a wonderful retirement home from the camp they had throughout their working lives. Maggie traveled quite a bit, including a trip to Bulgaria, the home of her ancestors, where she satisfied a curiosity to find family and learn more about her roots. Maggie was an avid gardener and enjoyed entertaining. She spent free time also sewing, quilting and retaining a friendship with the "Handee Dandees," a home-dem group, which socialized while doing crafts, monthly, over the span of 50 years. In the 1990's Maggie's life was happily consumed with cheering her local grandchildren as they ran in distance running events around the State. As a young girl of 9, Maggie lost her mother to illness. She was later predeceased by her father, and in more recent years, by her brother, James Tasheff of Wichita, KS and sister, Mary Tasheff of Canada Lake, followed by her husband, Earl C. Folmsbee in 2007. Maggie is survived by a son, Jeffrey Folmsbee and his wife, Sherry of Snellville, GA and their children, Lisa Bradford, Amy White, Rebecca Holland and Max Holland and Jeffrey and Sherry's nine grandchildren, all of Georgia. Maggie is also survived by son, James Folmsbee and his wife, Karen of Ballston Spa and their twins, Kyle Folmsbee of Scottsdale, AZ and Leah Folmsbee of Fairfield, CT. Maggie is also survived by her beloved twin sister, Virginia Baker, with whom she has shared a lifelong, tight bond, and brother-in-law, Henry Baker, of Gloversville. She also leaves a sister-in-law, Mary Louise Tasheff of Wichita, KS; and sister-in-law, Doris William Galpin of Meco, along with several nieces and nephews. By express wishes of the deceased, there will be no viewing. A private funeral service will be held for family and friends at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville. Interment will take place at the Columbarium Wall at Gerald Solomon National Cemetery in Saratoga, where rest the remains of her husband, Earl. A date is yet to be determined. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Magdaline Folmsbee may be made to the Wesley Foundation, 131 Lawrence Street, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866. It is with extreme gratitude that the family looks back at the care given by everyone in the Wesley Health Care Center Community. The donation of a book can also be made in Maggie's name to the NICU at Albany Medical Center where her preemie twin grandchildren had their miraculous start.
