Obituary of John V. Tagliaferri

John V. "Tag" Tagliaferri, age 72, of Gloversville, died Saturday, April 22, 2017 at Mountain Valley Hospice House, Gloversville, with his family at his side. He had battled with cardiac amyloidosis for four years. He was born March 30, 1945 in Gloversville, the son of Albert and Carmela Generoso Tagliaferri. He was a 1963 graduate of Johnstown High School later a graduate of Albany College of Pharmacy where he was a member of Kappa Psi Fraternity. He was employed at the former Ahearn Pharmacy in Johnstown, as a field supervisor at Rite Aid Corporation, a pharmacist at St. Mary's Hospital Pharmacy and was owner of Tag's Pharmacy in Amsterdam where he retired in 2008. Tag was a member of the Church of the Holy Spirit, the American Automobile Club where he served as a judge, Amsterdam Rotary, board member of Centro Civico of Amsterdam, Boy Scouts of America and the Order of the Arrow as well as the International Ford Retractable Club. He was an avid restorer of antique automobiles and an occasional hunter. Tag is survived by his wife of nearly 48 years, Katherine Rockwell Tagliaferri; two sons, John Tagliaferri II and wife Kelly of Stafford, VA and Jason R. Tagliaferri of Gloversville; two sisters, Rosemary Gnip and husband Louis of Ballston Spa and Maria Elaina Tagliaferri-Markiewicz and husband Richard of Schenectady; two grandchildren, Capri Tagliaferri and Giovanni Tagliaferri; as well as several nieces and nephews. The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 7 pm Wednesday, April 26, at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St; Gloversville where a Prayer Service will take place 10:15am Thursday, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 151 S. Main St; Gloversville, with the Rev. Donald Czelusniak as celebrant. Interment will follow at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown.
