Obituary of Gloria Santiago

Gloria Santiago, 89, of Farewell Street, Newport, RI died peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, July 22, 2010 at the Newport Hospital, Newport, RI. She was formerly a resident of Amsterdam , NY and the wife of the late Aurelio Santiago. Born in Sabana Grande, Puerto Rico on August 1, 1920 , she was the daughter of the late Francisco and Maria Colon Ortiz. She was employed in Amsterdam at the former Coleco Industries until her retirement in 1982. Gloria is survived by six of her children; Hilda Camacho, Portsmouth , RI , , Pete Santiago, Newport , RI , Gloria Schwartz, Seal Beach , CA , Ed Santiago, Amsterdam , NY , Jose Santiago, Coconut Creek , FL , and Kina Santiago-Ocasio, Edison , NJ . .She is the grandmother of 20, a Great Grandmother of 28, and a Great-Great Grandmother of 4.She was preceded in death by two daughters, Maria Surita and Nora Zayas. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at 11:15A.M. at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Main St. Amsterdam with Father John Medwid as celebrant. Interment will follow at St Michael the Archangel Cemetery in Amsterdam, NY. A Memorial Mass will also be held in Newport , R.I. in August.
