Obituary of John V. DiLorenzo
Mr. John V. DiLorenzo, 94, of Amsterdam, passed away Saturday evening October 16, 2010 at the River Ridge Living Center LLC. in Amsterdam.
Born in Amsterdam, NY on July 9, 1916 a son of the late Francesco and Maria Concetta Natoli DiLorenzo. He was a lifelong resident of Amsterdam and was a Graduate of the former Wilbur H. Lynch High School in 1933.
Mr. DiLorenzo was a U.S. Army Air Corps Veteran serving during World War II. He worked for a time at the Watervliet Arsenal and the Carpet Mills in Amsterdam. He then became the owner and operator of the former Johnny's Snack Bar until 1972 and later the former Mohawk Giftware and Coin Shop both in Amsterdam until his retirement in 1979. He was a communicant of the former St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam and was an Altar Server at the dedication of the church in 1930. He currently was a communicant of St. Mary's Church and was a member of the Columbian Social Club.
He married the former Loretta Agnes Horton DiLorenzo on April 23, 1939. She passed away on March 19, 1996. Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Cavaliere Fred of Amsterdam and Mary Lou Elwood Joseph of Carlisle, PA. Six grandchildren, Deborah Duma David Mazur, Mary Lou Crane Tim Quinn Tracy Burns Jeff Martin John Cavaliere Kathie, Kevin Elwood Tiffany and Darren Elwood. Nine great-grandchildren, Five great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by three sisters Lucy Vigliotti, Josephine Spicci and Mary Palmara and two brothers Frank and Sam Lorenzo.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday October 20, 2010 at 10:30 A.M. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:15A.M. at St. Mary's Church, Main St. Amsterdam with Father Brian List presiding. Interment will follow with full military honors in St. Mary's Cemetery, Ft. Johnson. The family will receive relatives and friends on Wednesday October 20, 2010 from 9:30A.M. to10:30A.M. at the funeral home.
