Obituary of Carol F. Lathers

Carol F. Lathers 93, of S. Manning Blvd., passed away Friday morning at her home. Born in Edinburg, NY on July 11, 1917, she was the daughter of Carl and Hazel Brownell Fraker. She moved to Broadalbin in 1927 and was a graduate of its high school. She later graduated from Keuka College. Mrs. Lathers received her Master Of Science degree in Library Science from SUNY Albany and had many courses toward her doctorate from that university. She taught at Chenango Forks, then in Pawling NY. During World War II, she worked at the Rome Air Force Base as the head of its library. She resided in Brooklyn for several years and then Hartford Conn. before moving to Fonda in 1950. Mrs. Lathers taught at Canajoharie Central School for nearly twenty five years and was a member of the Fonda Reformed Church. She moved to Albany in 1994. United in marriage to Schuyler Wilson Lathers on May 15, 1945, he predeceased her on May 9, 1990. She leaves her daughter, Claire Mary Lathers and Marcel Lajoy , Danielle and Camille Lajoie of Albany; a son Richard S. Lathers of Fonda; grandchildren; Gretchen, Emily and Katrina; a niece Janet F. Hannah, a nephew Peter Fraker and two grandnephews. Services are Monday at 11 am at the Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Fultonville. Interment will take place in the spring Prospect Hill Cemetery, Northville. A calling hour will precede the service from 10 am to 11 am. Contributions may be made in her name to the Camp Fowler in memory of Schuyler & Carol Lathers c/o the funeral home office.
