Obituary of John F. Cunnan

John F. "Jack" Cunnan, 69, of Ft. Plain, NY, passed away Thursday morning, December 23, 2010 at St. Mary's Hospital with his loving wife by his side. He was born May 26, 1941, in Syracuse, NY, the son of the late James L. and Ruth Hamilton Cunnan. Jack is a life time resident of Montgomery County area, he was a graduate of Solvay High School and went on to earn a Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering at Clarkson University. He was employed by the New York State Health Department for many years. He retired in 1999. Jack was most proud of his career and accomplishments as he was a contributor in updating numerous water systems as well as obtaining a substantial amount of state and federal funding to assist the communities. He was a former member of the Ft. Plain School Board and served as a past president of the board. He lived life to its fullest and loved to ski, canoe and bicycle. He spent a lot of time around the house and yard, enjoying his home and family. He was a fighter of long illness and a recipient of a kidney, he never gave up his battle with his illnesses. His loving family includes his wife, Rosene Fraser Cunnan whom he was united in marriage on August 1, 1964, a son Mark Jen Cunnan of Freehold, NY, a daughter Patricia Ernie Leighton of Mt. Pleasant, SC; grand children Ethan Cunnan and Alexandra Hogeboom. He is also survived by a sister, Mimi Purington of Skaneatles, NY; aunts and several cousins also survive. Funeral arrangements are in the care of Lenz & Betz Funeral Home, 69 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY. In accordance to Jack's wishes he will be cremated and a service of remembrance will take place in the spring at the convenience of his family. An announcement will be in the paper at that time. Contributions may be made in his memory to the American Kidney Foundation, The Albany Medical Center, Kidney Transplant Unit or a charity of one's choice in care of the funeral home office.
