I was one of many people that Paul taught scuba diving to. I will never forget him for that...because it turns out that I really like diving. I had my issues learning, but Paul stuck with me. As I came to know Paul, that is not at all surprising. Paul stuck with you until you got it.
Paul also liked to have some fun with the instruction. He was serious about diving safety, but he also like to have fun while diving. That combination made him a great teacher and a good man to know. I will miss him.

Marilyn, Jane, and Siobhan,
Paul had become such a big part of our lives. He will be missed terribly. Paul's passion for SCUBA was contagious, and he urged us and helped us to continue our training. We enjoyed working with Paul and his students over the last 15 years. We hope he was aware of how he positively influenced so many lives through his interest in SCUBA. We will miss you Paul!

Dear Marilyn, Jane & Family,
I am so saddened to read about Paul's passing. My heart aches for all of you. It was many years ago but my clearest memory is when Ronnie asked Paul if he would make the trip to Oppenheim to check for a hole in our pool liner. I can still see him suiting up, all professional, to go "diving". He was methodical, patient and so excited to have found not one but several pinholes that needed a patch. We were so grateful to say the least.
Please accept my sincere condolences for the loss of your son, husband and father. You will be in my thoughts & prayers during the difficult days to come.

Aunt Marilyn, Jane and Soibhan,
I am so very sorry for your great loss. Paul was always a gift to everyone he knew, because he had a heart of gold. I have so many treasured memories of Paul and I growing up. We used to get all dressed up and he wore a suit, yes he wore a suit...for Easter at Grandma Margaret's. We had fun birthday parties together and played battleship and he always won. My favorite thoughts are at camp where we swam, hung out at Shermans all summer and had the best times. He even introduced me to my first "real" boyfriend. He was the kindest, sweetest guy and I will always love him. Knowing how grandma Margaret and Grandpa Bill loved us, they will welcome their grandson and cherish him. God Bless you all. with love, Candy

Paul will be deeply missed by all that knew him. The mineral club owes him a great deal of gratitude. Not just for all that he did for the club, but for who he was. Shortly agter he joined the club we stuck him with being president. Admittingly he knew little about minerals but he took the job anyway. We lost our newsletter editor so he offered to that and made many improvements. Our secretary couldn't make many meetings, so he took the minutes. Our show chairman couldn't handle the pressure, so he took over that. He put up with a lot from us over the years but seldom if ever complained about it. He was a newer member, yet the glue that held us together. That's just who he was.

I have had the pleasure of knowing Paul my entire life and have so many wonderful memories. When I was a little girl we spent the summers at Grandpa's camp together. He called me squirt and pretended like I was bugging him, maybe I was, but he never left me behind. When he went to Shermans he always brought me, let me ride the rides and he even bought me ice cream. When we would fight, Grandpa made us go fill the water jugs at the well, that was often. Motor cycle riding, Grandma used to get so nervous. I know Grandma and Grandpa and your dad were waiting for you and that you will be okay, save me some beans. You have a beautiful family and you will be missed my friend.

Paul was an accomplished SCUBA diver and instructor with over 25 years of experience. He loved the water and sharing the fun and adventure that SCUBA diving offers. He will be greatly missed by his many dive buddies. Rest In Peace My Friend. We have a diver down! Tim Jennings - New York State Divers Association NYSDA Member

To the Cornell Family:
On behalf of Bateaux Below, Inc. and the Meaney-Zarzynski family, we are so sorry for the passing of our dear friend and colleague--Paul Cornell. I have known Paul for three decades. He was an "Honorary Member" of Bateaux Below, Inc., one of just a handful with that recognition. Paul was a hand-picked volunteer on many of our underwater archaeology projects at Lake George, NY from the early 1990s to 2010--the 1758 LAND TORTOISE radeau shipwreck, the 1893 CADET shipwreck, the 1758 sunken bateaux, the 1758 submerged colonial wharf, and a monitoring diver for the NYS Submerged Heritage Preserves. His support was invaluable. Everyone at Bateaux Below grieves. Paul was a superb archaeological diver, a supporter of shipwreck preservation and shipwreck preserves, and a terrific friend. Paul will always be with us as we dive. He loved his family, his friends, and diving.
Miss you buddy,
Pat Meaney, ZARR Joseph W. Zarzynski, and Bateaux Below, Inc.

To Paul's Family, What a shock to hear of Paul's passing.I was very lucky to have known Paul for many years from the Tip Top, he was always a pleasant guy to talk to and I enjoyed the many talks after the Scuba Club meetings about life, the Red Wings, work, the Red Wings, political views, the Red Wings and so on. I remember the day he brought in the Scuba Clubs flag and we hung it on the wall for all to see, you could see how much this meant to him.Words cannot express the pain that comes with the loss of a son, father, and a husband let alone a true good hearted all around guy. May God bless you during this difficult time, you are in our thoughts and prayers.

At work, Paul had a gruff exterior, but a heart of gold. One day one of the guys found two kittens on the side of the road. I took them. Paul came into the office, threw a few dollars on my desk and said to "feed those cats." Every time I was involved in a fundraiser, he would always donate. Like I said, gruff exterior, heart of solid gold. I miss him every day at work.
