Obituary of Glenn R. Bellinger
Glenn R. Bellinger, 59, of Fultonville, NY, passed away on Friday, February 18, 2011 at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, NY with family and friends by his side. He was born October 7, 1951 in Amsterdam, NY, the son of Harold R. and Lucy Steadwell Bellinger.
Glenn was a graduate of Fonda-Fultonville High School and SUNY Potsdam where he obtained his Bachelors degree; he received his Masters degree in Education from SUNY Cortland. Glenn finished his college career at Oneonta State University with a degree in Administration. He began his teaching career at Mohawk High School and West Canada Valley High School as an English teacher. After several years of teaching, he began his administrative career as an assistant principal at Greene High School, then as Perth High School principal, Broadalbin-Perth middle school principal, and then to Herkimer County BOCES as an administrator. He served as superintendent of schools at Oppenhiem-Ephratah Central and Salmon River Central. He was a member of the NYS Council of School Superintendents and a member of the Fonda Reformed Church. In 2007 he retired to his family's farm in Fultonville, NY after 33 dedicated years in education. Along with his great love for education, Glenn also enjoyed being outside, going for drives, and traveling. He also enjoyed working in his garden, often sharing his proudly grown vegetables with neighbors and friends. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He greatly enjoyed and always looked forward to the Saturday night dinners and Sunday morning breakfasts with friends. He also greatly enjoyed going to watch his son, Blake, coach football and basketball as he attended almost every game. Glenn was most proud of his children. A loving and devoted father, he faithfully supported all three in everything they have done. He cherished watching them grow into successful, responsible adults.
His loving family includes his mother, Lucy M. Bellinger, sons Brett Bellinger and Blake Bellinger, daughter Brianne Bellinger; brothers David A. Bellinger and Harold R. "Butch" Bellinger, Jr. Jessica, sisters Gloria Kimball, Denise Hayes Larry and Rebecca Finn Bryan. Several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Glenn is predeceased by his father by less than one month, Harold R. Bellinger, Sr. and also a brother Donald A. Bellinger.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at 1 pm at Jackson & Betz Funeral Home, 15 Main Street, Fultonville, NY 12072. Rev. Orville Jay Hine and Rev. Josh Baron will officiate. Family and friends are invited to visit on Tuesday, February 22, 2011 from 4 until 8 pm at the funeral home. Burial will take place in the spring, an announcement will be published at that time. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Fonda Reformed Church or to the American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home office.
