Obituary of Elizabeth V. Lambdin

Elizabeth V. Lambdin, age 86, of Gloversville died peacefully on Saturday February 19, 2011 at the Nathan Littauer Hospital Nursing Home in Gloversville with her loving family at her side. Always a devoted wife and mother, Betty had been an active member of her church and community before beginning a long decline in Alzheimer's disease. She was born in Frederick, Maryland on March 5, 1924 the daughter of the late Eldred W. and Elizabeth R. Van Fossen. Following her graduation from Hood College in 1945, She taught History at Middletown High School for several years. In 1947, Elizabeth married William S. Lambdin and moved to Baltimore, MD where she resumed teaching on a part time basis. She became a full time homemaker after the birth of their first child in 1951. The family moved to Gloversville, NY in 1959, so that her husband could accept a position with Empire Devices in Amsterdam as a Chief Engineer. Betty was active in a large number of community activities. She was a 50-year member of the First Presbyterian Church in Gloversville, where she served on its session. She was elected to a term on the Broadalbin School Board of Education, where she was an early advocate for the merger with the Perth Central School. Among other various community services were active memberships in the League of Women Voters, the American Association of University Women and the Fulton County Children's Committee, where she served as treasurer. She was an avid reader and a renowned baker, especially noted by her friends for her gifts of "Sticky Buns". She is survived by her husband of 63 years, William S. Lambdin of Gloversville and their three children: William W. Lambdin of Guilderland, Mary Elizabeth Lambdin James Henze of Cocoa Beach, FL and Thomas E. Lambdin Claudia of Auburn, NY; two granddaughters Allison and Mary. Additional Survivors include three of Betty's siblings; Cecelia Boller of Frederick, MD, Dolores Hall of Greenville, Sc and James Van Fossen of Orefield, PA. In addition to her parents, Elizabeth was preceded in death by two brothers: George E. Van Frossen and Eldred C Van Frossen. A memorial celebration of her life will be scheduled for the near future. The arrangements have been entrusted to the Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville. Cremation will take Place at Parkview Crematorium, Schenectady. Memorial contributions can be made in memory of Elizabeth to the Food Pantry of the First Presbyterian Church of Gloversville, 16 West Fulton Street, Gloversville, NY 12078.
