Obituary of Carl H. Bovee
Carl H. Bovee, 91, of Gloversville, went peacefully to join his beloved wife Jane on August 18, 2011. His loving family was by his side. Born in the Town of Day on April 10, 1920, he was a son of the late Charles W. and Ada Carrol Bovee. In October 1937, he married Jane O'Donnell who passed away January 25, 2004. Mr. Bovee was a dedicated and loving father and husband, and was a wonderful caregiver to his wife for several years before her death .He had a great sense of humor, made friends easily and was "Papa" not only to his grandchildren and great grandchildren, but to so many others whose lives he touched. Prior to being drafted into the United States Army, he was employed at the Gloversville Knitting Mill. After serving his country, he was employed by various leather mills in the Gloversville area, retiring from Fashion Tanning Co., Inc. in May 1985. He was a member of The Cross of Lorraine Division of the 79th Infantry during World War Two. Besides being awarded two Bronze Stars, Carl also received the Purple Heart for an injury he received while in combat in Germany.
He is survived by three sons: Harvey Bovee of Boerne, Tx., Danny Bovee and his wife Cheryl of Bleecker, N.Y., Thomas Bovee and his wife Sharyn of Duncan, S.C., three daughters: Carol Griffith of Amsterdam, Noel Bovee of Gloversville, and Lorraine Chun and her husband John of Salem, OR.. He is also survived by Eighteen grandchildren, several great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
His son, Charles F. Bovee, his daughter, Janet T. Blackwood, and three grandsons, Mark Blackwood, Brendan Bovee, and Danny Bovee II, pre-deceased him. Carl was also pre-deceased by four brothers; Harold, Floyd, Leo and Clinton Bovee and two sisters; Ethel Masaitis and Eva Snow.
Funeral services will be conducted 12 noon Monday August 23, 2011 at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St. Gloversville. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 4-7 pm. Burial with military honors will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville.
