Obituary of Iris E. Dormond

Iris E. Dormond, 76, of Amsterdam, NY, passed away at her home on Tuesday, February 13^th, 2024, with her loving husband by her side.

She was born on March 13^th, 1947, in Yauco, Puerto Rico to the late Miguel and Angelita (Ramirez) Pietri. Iris attended local schools, including St Joseph’s. She graduated with the class of 1965 from Wilbur H. Lynch High School.

On August 7^th, 1965, she was united in marriage to Gilbert R. Dormond in Amsterdam, NY.

Iris was an avid reader and loved to watch movies with her grandchildren. She also had a green thumb and loved to care for all her plants and flowers. More than anything, she thoroughly enjoyed cooking for her family and friends. She passed down her delicious recipes, so that we would never forget her passion.

Iris enjoyed life as she traveled to many different states and countries with her sisters. Their adventures were endless, and every journey was filled with lots of love and laughter.

Iris was predeceased by her parents Miguel and Angelita Pietri; her cherished grandson Ryan Douglas; and her dear Godson and nephew, David (DJ.) Gomula in 2023.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years Gilbert Dormond; her five devoted children Melissa (Rick) Douglas, Christine (Tom) Grille, Jessica Thompson (Mike Rhodes), Gilbert (Heather) Dormond Jr., and Louis (Tania) Dormond; beloved grandchildren Tommy, Christopher and Mary Elizabeth Grille, Michael and Olivia Dormond, Andrew and Brayden Thompson, and Gianna Dormond.

Iris was an amazing big sister to her siblings including Nancy Gomula, Mary Castillo, Amy Bauer, Michael Pietri, Edna Loby, Edgar Pietri, Miriam Czelusniak, Joe Pietri, Elizabeth Goodstein, and Joanne Mycek. She was adored by all her nieces, nephews, aunt, and cousins.

Family and friends are invited to call from 10am to 12pm on Monday, February 19^th, 2024, at Betz, Rossi, Bellinger & Stewart Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam, NY 12010. A service of remembrance will be held for Iris at 11am. Interment will be held immediately following the calling hours at St Joseph’s Cemetery in Fort Johnson, NY.
