Obituary of George R. Austin

George R. “Butch” Austin Jr., 70, of Gloversville, NY passed away surrounded by his family on Saturday, September 16, 2023 following a brief illness.  Born in Gloversville, NY on March 7, 1953 he was the son of the late George and Onnolee Sweet Austin Sr. 

A lifelong resident of the area, Butch attended local schools and graduated from Glens Falls High School.  He worked as an electrician for several different companies until his retirement.  His greatest joy was racing stock cars and spending time with family and friends.  He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.  

He was predeceased by his sister, Karen Oare. 

Survivors include his wife of forty five years, Janet C. Hasenfuss Austin; two sons, George R. Austin III and his wife April, and Chad Austin and his wife Amanda; four grandchildren, Cole, Nevaeh, Lucas, and Grace; his sister, Mary Rowback; special nephews, Jimmy Oare, Bob, William and Brandon Rowback; and his beloved dog, Star; several nieces, nephews and cousins.  

It was George’s request there be no formal services.  In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Ayres Memorial Animal Shelter, 133 Hilltop Road, Sprakers, NY 12166 or the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society www.LLS.org
