Doris Clo

Obituary of Doris E. Clo

This obituary is short and to the point – per Doris.  And this obituary in no way conveys the nobility of our honoree – per the rest of us.   Doris Evelyn (Herting) Clo was born in Pottstown, Pennsylvania on March 17, 1932, to Ruth and G. Claire Herting.  She graduated from Hudson Falls High School, NY in 1950 and from Ithaca College with a BS in Business in 1954.  Doris married Norman Clo on September 4, 1954.  (This means Sept 4, 2023, marks the 69th anniversary of their marriage!)   They lived in Ithaca where Doris worked for one year as secretary for the Dean of the Chemical Engineering Department at Cornell University, and two years at Donald J. Belcher and Associates.   They moved to Gloversville in 1957 when Norman was hired as a music teacher in the Gloversville School system.  Doris lived in Gloversville for 66 years.  She served as Church Secretary at St. James Lutheran Church in Gloversville and was an active parishioner of both St. James and Grace Lutheran Church in Johnstown where she was a Council Member and worked on various committees.  She also sang in the church choir and was an active member of the “Church Ladies.”   Doris was also active as a Brownie Girl Scout leader and Junior Girl Scout leader.   She actively participated in her children’s education and held a lifetime membership in the PTA.

Doris is survived by her husband Norman A. Clo, brother, David Herting, daughter Lisa McLellan (John), daughter Cynthia Clo (Cindy Moorcroft), son John Clo (Lynette), Franklin Whitney and Susan VanVoorst.   She is also survived by her grandchildren, Sarah McLellan (Sam Brown), Michael McLellan (Ashley), Victoria Clo, Noah Clo, Evelyn “Felix” Clo, Fern Beetle-Moorcroft (Oliver Goosen), and two very special great-grandchildren, Huck McBrown and Corbin McLellan.  Included in the survivors are many beloved nieces and nephews. She is also survived by the “Church Ladies” of Grace Lutheran Church and others embraced as close as family by Doris’ loving heart.
