Born July 28, 1944, in Gloversville, NY, she was the daughter of the late Francis T. Dwyer Sr. and the late Phyllis (Moyer) Dwyer. In January, 1962, she wed Jerry L. VanAlstyne. Phyllis and Jerry spent a lifetime filled with love, commitment, devotion and friendship.
She is survived by her children, Ron (Pamela) VanAlstyne of Sylva, NC, Eric VanAlstyne of Johnstown, Jason (Lisa) VanAlstyne of Syracuse, Leslie VanAlstyne of Corinth and Tim (Tina Carbone) VanAlstyne of Bleecker, her 12 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, her brother Donald (Brenda) Dwyer and her sister-in-law Carol Dwyer.

As a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Phyllis valued spending time with people more than anything else. No one was a stranger to Phyllis. She was always happiest when she was surrounded by her children, their families and friends. She will be remembered for her caring nature, her laughter and her sense of adventure. She especially loved the outdoors, camping, hiking, the beach, and spending time in her flower garden.
Her compassion for people is what compelled her to become a nurse. While raising her children, Phyllis attended FMCC and was licensed as a registered nurse. She worked as an RN for decades at Nathan Littauer Hospital, primarily in the Intensive Care Unit.
Family and friends are invited to gather on Friday, April 7, 2023, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville, NY 12078. Burial will be immediately following at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Gloversville NY.
