Obituary of Bettina L. Schmaeh
Fonda-Bettina L. Schmaeh, 88, passed away on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at home surrounded by her loving family.
Born on January 10, 1935, in Amsterdam, the daughter of the late Henry and Florence (Burtt) Clairmont. A lifelong resident of the area, Bettina graduated from Wilbur H. Lynch High School and went on to retire from St. Mary’s Hospital where she worked as a phlebotomist.
Bettina was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Tribes Hill. Together with her husband, Karl, they loved to travel together and even had the opportunity to travel to Egypt. She enjoyed crafts of all kinds, and she loved to do oil paintings. She also enjoyed gardening. Most of all, Bettina was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend who will be greatly missed by all.
Survivors include her beloved husband of 61 years, Karl Schmaeh, Sr; sons, Karl Schmaeh, Jr. (Nancy) and Peter Schmaeh (Mary); daughters, Elizabeth Gannon (Lester) and Karen Schwabrow (Jimmy); brother, Eric Clairmont (Linda); sister-in-law, Diane Clairmont; grandchildren, Jason, Matthew, Bethany, Chad, Teanna, Mathew, Kyle, Emily, Andrew, Josh, Sam and Julia; as well as 11 great-grandchildren. Bettina was predeceased by her brothers, David Clairmont (late Maryann) and Paul Clairmont.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at 11am at Sacred Heart Church, 111 3rd Ave, Tribes Hill, 12177.
Calling hours which relatives and friends are invited to attend will be held on Tuesday, March 7, 2023 from 4pm until 7pm at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam.
Graveside services for Bettina will be held on Friday, May 19, 2023 at 2:30pm at Pine Grove Cemetery, Tribes Hill.
