My earliest memory of Sylvia was when I was a child. My family, Fibber, and Sylvia went fishing for bullheads in a lake up north. I was in the boat with Sylvia and Fibber. Sylvia pulled out a big one and it hit Fibber right in the face. Since Sylvia was a family friend, it was difficult for me to call her Mrs. Parker when at school. I remember one day in high school I kept calling her Sylvia. She ignored me until she finally asked me to call her Mrs. Parker. I was so embarrassed. Sylvia was a lovely lady, a wonderful teacher, and a great friend.

Mrs. Parker was one of Mayfield's best teachers. There will never be another one like her.
She was an elementary teacher at Mayfield in her early years, and taught 6th grade. Mrs. Parker, may you rest in peace, and remember - they broke the mold when they made you.
Sincerely,
Joel Marcellus

Oh the Sylvia stories---I'll share a couple. I had to sub for Sylvia one Senior Ball. She and I were leaning into the trunk of her car to get the stuff I needed. We heard a splat----a bird the size of an airplane had pooped on her back. I take her to the bathroom and hand her a clean tee shirt. My husband, Bob, and I are trying very hard not to laugh too loud. Next---she did not take the time to preview the film she was going to show her class during the sex chapter. A tall, very skinny young man pretended to be a penis who was being covered with a "rubber" and how he fit into the protective shield. The class loved it, Sylvia did a good job at lunch re-creating the film. Last---at her retirement party we had to give her 2 rubber plants. They were earrings. Some of the committee though her Mom would not think it was proper. No!! As I was presenting them to her, I quickly turned and looked at Mrs. Gilbert who was laughing louder and harder than Sylvia.
I could go on with more but will close by telling you that Sylvia was the reason Bob went to the retired teachers luncheon so that he could sit by her and keep up the kidding.
We will miss her!!

A great woman..... I owe her a naked run through the village for actually emailing me some content for the historic society news letter a long time ago! (I made mistake of commenting at a meeting that I'd do that if anyone would electronically send me input!)
