Obituary of Lydia Davis Cacace
Lydia (Davis) Cacace, R.N. - beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend - passed away at home surrounded by loved ones on the morning of April 19 after a long battle with cancer. Lydia was born on January 10, 1956, in Amsterdam, NY to Lois (Nesbitt) and Erastus Corning Davis III. She married Anthony T. Cacace of Mt. Vernon, NY, on June 3, 1978, and had three children, Elizabeth, Cassandra, and Anthony, whom they raised in Voorheesville, NY.
Lydia served her community as a registered psychiatric and addictions nurse; most recently, at St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor Hospital in Ypsilanti, MI. She cared for and watched over a countless number of patients during their hardest times. After 40 years of service, she retired in 2020 to focus on her health, family, dogs (Harry and Gigi), and squirrels (including Nutzy and Baby) in her backyard.
Lydia was the brightest light in the room. She had a calm, welcoming personality and a beautiful smile and laugh. She had an incredible sense of humor, adored her husband's cooking, enjoyed all kinds of music, traveling, NCIS, and always a good book (from the library, of course!).
She loved having a glass of wine (or two) with her dearest friends, going for walks, and having breakfast out on the weekends. Lydia was also a very spiritual person and enjoyed attending Sunday mass and listening to the choirs at both St. Peter's Church and The Cathedral of All Saints in Albany, NY.
She cherished her family and friends. No matter the circumstances - she made herself available for a phone call or lunch date to keep up with everyone else's lives. It was rare if she did not speak to all three of her children daily.
Lydia is predeceased by her parents, Lois and Erastus, and nephew, David Stott. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Anthony, her daughters Elizabeth (husband Javier) and Cassandra (husband Matthew), her son, Anthony (partner Emily), and grandchildren, Nathaniel, Angelina, and Michael. Her brothers, Douglas (wife Norma) Davis and James Davis are also part of her legacy.
