Obituary of Kathyleen S. Guarnier
Miss Kathyleen S. Guarnier, age 78, passed away Monday, February 28, 2022, at Capstone Center for Rehab & Nursing, Amsterdam, NY.
She was born January 3, 1944, in Gloversville, NY, the daughter of the late Salvatore "Sam" and Margaret Peters Guarnier. She was a graduate of Gloversville High School, the College of St. Rose and SUNY Plattsburgh with a bachelor’s degree in education.
In 1974, Kathy moved to Schenectady from Gloversville where she taught 4th grade for 30 years and Remedial Math for 10 years in the Schenectady School System. Kathy was an incredible teacher, and at one point in her career she was a finalist for New Year State Teacher of the Year. Her influence and lessons taught to her students will always be remembered.
Kathy was a devout Catholic. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church of Schenectady, where she attended Mass weekly.
Kathy was also a passionate fan of New York Yankees baseball. Her greatest love though was reserved for her nieces and nephews. Kathy absolutely loved being an Aunt. In 2014, when she moved to Capstone Center, she even asked all of her nurses to call her “Aunt Kathy”.
Kathy is survived by two sisters, Cecelia Malagisi (Andrew) of Ballston Spa, and Rita Guarnieri of Gloversville; as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a brother and sister, Salvatore Guarnieri III, and Maria Hallenbeck-Brown.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 1:30pm to 2:30pm Friday, March 4th at the Church of the Holy Spirit, 153 S. Main St; Gloversville, where a Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 2:30pm with the Rev. Donald Czelusniak as Celebrant.
Interment will take place in the spring at Mount Carmel Cemetery, Johnstown, NY.
Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the Church of the Holy Spirit, 153 S. Main St; Gloversville, NY 12078.

Lastly, the family would like to thank all of the nurses and doctors at Capstone for their care to Kathy during the final chapter of her life. Thank you for everything you’ve done for Aunt Kathy.
